In order to fulfill my goal to collect at least one banknote from every country in the world I decided to create my own website. The purpose of this venture is to present my always growing banknote collection to other friends and banknote collectors around the world and to exchange the duplicates with other collectors.
As a kid, I was collecting paper money, coins and stamps, but I was not a serious collector and too often my collection had been neglected. Sometimes for years. Luckily, during my student days in the USA I met a lot of people from all over the world. Some of them were collecting the paper money too, so I decided to 're-activate' my hobby.
While I was designing these pages I wanted to find the best way to present my banknote collection online. Also, I tried to find a name for my website and finally 'theWaterMark' popped up to me as an interesting name. Even though there are numerous banknote security features used to prevent counterfeiting, watermark is still among the most popular and well-known security features of paper money.
As an amateur banknote collector I collect banknotes only for fun and not as an investment or for profit. Therefore, my primary intention is to swap the banknotes with other collectors, not to buy or sell them.
Even if you are not collecting banknotes but you like my website and you want to donate banknotes from your country to enrich my collection feel free to contact me and please specify whether or not you want your name to be credited on my website as a donator or you prefer to stay anonymous. I am thankful to all of you anyway!
I hope you will have a lot of fun browsing these pages and learning interesting facts about other countries and its famous people, geography, culture, history, landmarks, etc. through the banknotes.
Enjoy!
P.S. I believe this website will develop with the time and become more interesting than it is at the moment. I would appreciate any ideas and suggestions for that purpose. Thank you!
